Easy to Navigate, Fun to Use and Searchable
The goal for a new Food for Health website was to create an up-to-date look and feel, make the site accessible and responsive on all screens sizes, and build an intuitive navigation. Industrial designed the user interface to be easy to navigate, fun to use, and searchable with a look and feel that complements the Canada Agriculture and Food Museum brand and museum logos. During the planning process we evaluated WP themes taking into account the following considerations: responsive design, accessibility, web standards, and flexibility. Taking into consideration Canada Science and Technology Museum Corporation's (CSTMC) Requirements, Industrial recommended building a custom theme that followed WordPress theme development best practices, adhered to web standards, allowed for an appropriate custom design, and adhered to WCAG 2.0 Level AA Guidelines in order to reach the broadest audience possible. Building a custom theme ensured we had the flexibility to make the website fully bilingual using the WordPress Multilingual (WPML) plugin.
Strategy - Implementation - Support
Industrial's requirements gathering process during the planning phase of the project helped to form a Technical Specifications document which outlined website feature and functionality requirements, recommended plugins, theming requirements, development standards, hosting, testing and launch. The recipe for success behind a quick build and March 2016 launch was granting early client access to a staging link as well as the agile development and management approach used at Industrial. Throughout our two week sprints, and working up to our project milestone working sessions, CSTMC could see the team's progress in real-time, anytime. This approach ensured that desired functionality changes were captured early in the process, and that User Acceptance Testing was done iteratively throughout the project.
Fully Responsive Layout
The new site ensures content is easy to find and fully accessible with a user-friendly navigation. CSTMC is able to display new and featured content in a light and visually appealing way.
